Just Published Online! My Poem, “Persian to Me Was Just a Kind of Cat,” appears PASSAGES NORTH!

Friday the 13th has always been a day of good luck for me. This year is no exception, because today I have had the honor of a poem published by a journal I admire.

Passages North, founded in 1979, now resides at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michign. I was introduced to the journal by a friend, Laura Soldner, who was on the faculty for many years–thank you, Laura! Passages North offers both an annual print issue each spring, and regular “bonus” content online. To learn more about this excellent journal, click HERE.

To find the most recent bonus supplement–my own poem!–click HERE.

The stunning first image in this post is by my sister, Karla, who shared it with us this year as a Valentine’s Day card. The rest are ones that I have taken over the years in our neighborhood.

Wishing you a day of happy connections,

LESLIE

  1. What a stunning poem Leslie! Thank you so much for sharing it and for the beautiful pictures!!!
    xxxx

  2. Thank you, dear Lynn–for this, for sending the photo of tulips in your own vase today (!), and for your pure, poetic heart.
    Love to you!

  3. Love love love the audaciousness of this four year old challenging her grandfather to prove his claim that tulips came in every color like her crayons, only to find herself bested by the velvet dresses she finds looking into their hearts. How incredible to have stored that memory.
Just realized that Karla’s photograph is exactly what the commentator Sarah Bass is referring to when she talks about harvesting a tulip : “choose one whose petals are still clasped tight”.
And the title of the poem is purr-fect!

  4. Thank you for taking the time to comment, dear Beth. I saw some ground cover greening up today in our back garden, if you can believe it. I hope the tulips wait until all danger of frost is past (per Patricia Hampl and her greenhouse-savvy father in A ROMANTIC EDUCATION!)

  5. What a fabulous poem, Leslie! Not sure I’ve read it before now and it is a perfect spring boost and just a sweet and wise story in poem form! Love it! Happy Valentine’s Day!
