Public Radio KAXE Broadcast’s “Echo From Hug Point” on Wordish

I am so happy to share that my poem, “Echo From Hug Point,” has been broadcast on “Wordish,” a weekly feature of public radio in the far north of Minnesota. Their archives are filled with interesting work from Minnesota poets. My own poem was originally published in Mezzo Cammin last year, and can be accessed through a link on my post then, in case you would like to see the text on the page.

The photos in this post are, to the best of my knowledge, in the public domain. And by way of exploring to find them, I discovered that the narrow way around Hug Point, just south of Cannon Beach, may have had a key role in one of Oregon’s signature and visionary public policy moves: mandating that the entire coastline remain public–at least the “wet sand” portion.  I lived in Oregon from age four–celebrating my fifth birthday in North Bend–to almost age ten. I recall many drives along Highway 101, and even some on wet beach sand.  The last time I was at Cannon Beach and Hug Point was in January 1999, when Tim and I went to Oregon to celebrate my birthday and spend time with his sisters. This stretch of the Pacific Coast holds eternal magic–and I think we are overdue for another visit to the Stephanie Inn!

Wishing you a pleasant weekend, and perhaps a Sunday drive in sunshine on dry road!                                                          LESLIE
