Today, February 22, 2014–Peanut’s 6th birthday–is the official publication of Alpha, Beta,…: A Pictorial Guide to the Attic Greek Alphabet. Five years in the making, the book is complete at last. Look forward to a future post containing an interview with the author and information on how to order a copy for your personal or civic library.

Early reviewers are uniformly enthusiastic (all photos of ancient authors in the public domain; all quotes loosely translated):

Alpha, Beta contains the ideal essence of the Greek letters!”   Plato

“Makes me think lyrical thoughts & break out in Adonic lines–and I’m not even from Attica!”      Sappho

“It’s a real tragedy that it wasn’t available until now. JJM Braulick, take a bow!”

  1. Hi Jean,

When Julia gets home, I will show her your message. She’ll be so pleased! Aleka was very helpful in helping Julia get to this stage, and Julia has a copy for everyone who reviewed the book. On March 5, I will be posting an interview with Julia on the process of developing this work over five years. At that time, the books might have arrived, and I’ll include information about how to find copies for those who are interested.

Thank you for your enthusiasm! Leslie

  2. CONGRATULATIONS! What a celebration of accomplishment! I must alert Aleka — how soon will copies be available!!!! I could not be more proud. Thank you for sharing!

  3. Hi Carolyn,

Thanks, but this isn’t a word I know, and I didn’t find it in my dictionary…what does it mean? Julia

  4. My friend Nikki Pieratos says she went to Greek School on Saturdays, while growing up in Chicago and Boston. Where there’s got to be a market! Any yes, she has cousins and nephews named Nicholas, and all the variations of “Nick” just like the family in “My Big Fat Greek Wedding.”

  5. CONGRATULATIONS JULIA

HOW SUPER TO HAVE ANOTHER BOOK PUBLISHED.

Off hand I don’t have any one in mind for a copy. Will the book be printed on demand?
We have a book published within days of each other…what fun life is.
Many congratulations. Perhaps we could celebrate with lunch some where so a photographer could take pictures.

    Love Sandy

  6. Hi Jan,

Thanks! Peanut did have a nice birthday complete with a much larger stick of dog beef jerky than usual!
    Julia

  7. Very nice JJM Braulick! (aka Miss Julia, to me)
Great Pic of you and the Peanut

If you don’t mind, I’ll pass this to my daughter Nicole, since she actually visited Greece during her college years
